I’m Ian Guest, an anxiety coach in Wigan, Greater Manchester, and I’m passionate about helping clients to overcome their stress, anxiety, worries and fears. 

We all struggle with challenges and feel overwhelmed at times, but when our emotions stop us from living the life that we want, it is time to make a change. Since you have found yourself here, my guess is that you are looking for anxiety treatment for yourself or someone you care about.

Making the initial decision to address your mental health can be challenging and it takes real bravery to face your problems head-on, so well done.

My job is to create an environment where you feel safe and happy to work with me. Our work will be a collaborative process, so I won’t be telling you what to do. We’ll work together as a team and finding out what works for you. On the way, you’ll be learning new skills so that you can handle difficult thoughts and feelings more effectively.

My experience of working with clients has allowed me to develop a new and effective treatment called Hypno-ACT (®). It combines the best of hypnosis, mindfulness and CBT, and is based on the most current research on dealing with anxiety disorders such as phobias, GAD and social anxiety.

What is Hypno-ACT®?

Hypno-ACT combines the best of four evidence-based treatments; hypnosis, acceptance & commitment therapy, CBT & EMDR.

Research into the benefits of hypnosis goes back over 150 years ago. It is a natural, safe and effective treatment that involves helping you to create a deep state of focused attention. In that state, you are able to discover new ways of thinking, behaving and feeling. Hypnosis is particularly effective at producing a wonderful feeling of relaxation and calmness, which is ideal for helping you to deal with your anxiety issues.

Acceptance & commitment therapy (pronounced like the word “act”) is a cutting-edge form of therapy. Over 1000 studies have shown its effectiveness on a wide range of emotional issues. Learning the skills of ACT, such as mindfulness and defusion, will help you to be more present, be more open to difficult feelings and to be more in touch with your values.

Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) focuses on the present, rather than the past. It helps you to understand that what you think and do can affect the way that you feel. CBT techniques can help you to recognise unhelpful thinking habits that cause your anxiety and give you strategies for dealing with life’s challenges.

Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) is a technique that was developed to help clients overcome trauma, but it can be used for a variety of emotional issues. It involves the client focusing on thoughts and feelings, whilst at the same time watching the movements of the coach’s finger. EMDR can create rapid change in clients.
