What is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?

Have you been involved in a highly distressing experience? Is it still affecting your daily life, even though it happened in the past? Do you struggle with nightmares or flashbacks?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a complex disorder that involves having been exposed to a traumatic experience and then persistently re-experiencing the event through flashbacks, nightmares and memories.

It is estimated that around 7% of the population will struggle with PTSD during their life. Women are more likely to be dealing with the disorder.

Although closely associated with people who have served in the armed services, people from all walks of life may have PTSD.

There are lots of experiences that can be at the root of PTSD, including having been involved in a serious accident, being abused, being in a combat situation or witnessing death or injury.

What are the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?

Post-traumatic stress disorder can create emotional symptoms, changes to the way you think, as well as physical discomfort. Symptoms of PTSD can include:

  • Nightmares
  • Unwanted upsetting memories
  • Flashbacks
  • Trauma-related thoughts and feelings

How can Hypno-Act help with

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?

Hypno-Act can be an effective treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder. It combines hypnotic techniques, mindfulness as well as helpful tools from CBT and EMDR. During your sessions, you will develop a range of skills to better handle your thoughts and feelings. Rather than trying to stop your thoughts or getting rid of your anxiety, which might help in the short-term but is ineffective in the long-term, Hypno-Act works by helping you to create a sense of calm acceptance.

During your treatment you will learn:

  • How to use hypnosis to relax quickly and easily
  • How to become more optimistic and hopeful
  • How to become more mindful
  • How to unhook from the thoughts that usually hook you in
  • How to develop an accepting attitude
  • How to be exposed to your fears without overreacting
  • How to clarify your values and chose actions and behaviours that are aligned with them

During your treatment, we will work together as a team to decide on the strategies that work best for you.

You will need to be 100% committed to treatment as in between sessions you will be given tasks to work on and to practice.
