What is Stress?

Are you struggling to deal with everything that life throws at you? Do you feel overwhelmed by the number of things that you have to do? Stress can be defined as: “physical, psychological or social dysfunction resulting in individuals feeling unable to bridge the gap with the requirements or expectations placed upon them”.

A recent study showed that during the previous year, 74% of people have felt so stressed they have been overwhelmed or unable to cope. 51% of adults who felt stressed reported feeling depressed, and 61% reported feeling anxious.

There are lots of reasons why people feel stressed, and usually, it can be made worse by a combination of issues including:

  • Ill health
  • Relationships
  • Work pressure
  • Money worries
  • Housing worries
  • Bereavement

What are the symptoms of Stress?

Stress can create emotional symptoms, changes in the way you think, as well as physical discomfort. Symptoms of stress can include:

  • Low energy
  • Worry
  • Insomnia
  • Avoiding situations
  • Muscle tension
  • Poor focus
  • Heart racing
  • Change in appetite

How can Hypno-ACT help with


Hypno-ACT can be an effective treatment for stress. It combines hypnotic techniques, acceptance and commitment therapy as well as helpful tools from CBT and EMDR. During your sessions, you will develop a range of skills to better handle your stress. Rather than trying to stop your thoughts or getting rid of your difficult thoughts and feelings, which might help in the short-term but is ineffective in the long-term, Hypno-ACT works by helping you to create a sense of calm acceptance.
